Cannabidiol (CBD) A Great Natural Remedy

Ever since the Farm Bill or otherwise known as the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed and enacted, there has been a major growth of Cannabidiol (CBD) products. CBD is one of the most abundant cannabinoids, a compound found inside cannabis hemp, and cannabis plants in general. With many States now producing massive amounts of hemp cannabis, the main source for CBD, it can sometimes be a bit challenging to know if this “miracle” compound has the benefits many claim. Don’t worry though, we’ll break down the variety of potential uses, side effects, and of course the desired benefits CBD brings to the table!

Why use Cannabinoids? Let’s look at some basic science!

To start off, we need to understand what the endocannabinoid system or ECS is. The ECS is the biological system that is made up of cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids (what your body already makes!), and enzymes that regulate the endocannabinoids. The ECS assists in neural functions, motor functions, learning and memory, emotion, pain, and homeostasis – the body maintaining balance among various systems! The two main cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. The CB1 receptor helps regulate physiological processes such as pain, inflammation, memory, and appetite and is heavily rooted in the central nervous system. As you probably would have guessed, this is why THC is able to have its psychological effect by activating the CB1 receptor. On the other hand, the CB2 receptor is lacking in the central nervous system, and instead is found more so in the immune system. CB2 receptor helps regulate immune response, inflammation, pain, and neuronal function.

Certain cannabinoids will only activate certain receptors, as mentioned above THC heavily binds to CB1 but still binds to CB2. Compare it to CBD which only binds and functions through the CB2 receptor. Since both receptors do have some overlapping effects, it is commonly thought that trying to activate both receptors and getting them fully functioning is most ideal. This leads us to another critical idea we need to keep in mind, and that’s The Entourage Effect! Essentially, it is the hypothesis that having a variety of cannabis compounds found in the plant from various cannabinoids, terpenes, and more help to amplify for a greater effect when used together. Much more research is needed to solidify if binding cannabinoids and more to the CB1 and CB2 receptors truly makes endocannabinoids in the ECS provide the claimed health benefits. Claims for medicinal benefits are not guaranteed, but there are promising studies showing the potential.

How to start getting some Benefits from Cannabinoids

So now that we have some basic knowledge around what the ECS and the Entourage Effect are, the next step is to figure out which cannabinoids you need! If you’re looking for general purpose wellbeing or help with any of these various issues such as inflammation, chronic pain, anxiety, or immune system deficiency, then Broad Spectrum CBD and Full Spectrum CBD is a great place to start. So now you may ask what’s the difference between Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum. The answer is quite simple. Broad Spectrum CBD is made from cannabis hemp and has had all THC completely removed from it. It’s a great way to start getting a variety of cannabinoids on the spectrum without having to worry about THC being in your system. This may interest you if you don’t want to chance testing positive for THC on a drug test, or if you’re hypersensitive to THC and don’t wish to use it. Compared to Full Spectrum CBD, this stuff is 100% what was from the cannabis hemp with nothing removed. It brings a greater Entourage Effect, because THC is still naturally inside alongside the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds. Full Spectrum CBD is legal in almost every single State in the USA, so long as it was taken from cannabis hemp tests below the legal THC limit of 0.3%!
